JOB TITLE:   Inventory Counter (Specialist)

SALARY:   Starts at 7.00 to 8.00 (depending on city) with merit increases twice a year based on performance.

POSITION PURPOSE:

Perform a physical inventory tally of merchandise at various customer sites to ensure that a timely, accurate, professional, courteous, and profitable service is provided to the customer.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Inventory Specialist, under close supervision, follows a few clearly detailed instructions or procedures used to count merchandise in a retail environment.  Merchandise information is visually read off shelf labels or price tags and entered into a portable data collector with the physical count using a portable scanner gun (point and shoot) or ten key by touch skill.  Problems due to erroneous items, codes or missing information are referred to a supervisor.  The most significant challenge is to maintain accuracy while increasing productivity.  Supervisory audits of completed work are frequently performed in order to ensure accuracy.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1.   Assure merchandise is quickly and accurately counted by correctly entering the count and/or merchandise data into the data collector through keying or scanning.

2.   Meet or exceed established standards of performance and conduct.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:

1.   Ability to move across a variety of surfaces such as tiles, concrete, asphalt, carpet, etc., and climb stairs or ladders as necessary to ensure a complete count of all merchandise throughout the work site.

2.   Ability to accurately read data visually from merchandise or shelf tags and simultaneously enter this data into a portable data collector while ensuring adherence to accuracy and performance standards.

3.   Ability to continuously reach and lift or shift merchandise of varying weights and sizes as necessary to ensure an accurate and timely count.
